Are we there yet?

  • How about a little history.
I started this blog in 2003. It was to be all about our experience in house building. It's been an amazing journey. Sometimes I look around and I can't believe we acutally built this house and when I say we I mean we. Myself, my husband, his cousin Russ, our Dads and assorted friends and other relatives. We did hire a contractor to pour our foundation and we had a horrible experience with some drywallers but otherwise it was all us. We have been in the house now for one year. There are still a lot of details to finish up. I have some guilt about not posting house projects since I am a member of a house blog ring but there is a lot of valuable information on house building here so while my posts are more about living in our dream house you can still search my archives for posts on every aspect of house building. So? Are we there yet? Nearly. We still need doors and trim inside.......some flooring and tiling needs to be done so stay tuned-we'll get there.

Olivia's Garden

This is Olivia.

Olivia She belongs to our neighbor Chett

She is a really good dog.  If you are ever bored she will chase a stick for hours.  She always comes over to greet us when we get home.

She got into our garbage a few times.  She delighted in going through everything looking for snacks.  (no worries Chett, it was our fault for leaving the lids off)

I was out there the other day and noticed a rather nice patch of tomatoes growing where she must have spread some tomatoe scraps around.

Olivias_tomatoe_patch It's amazing, we worked so hard last year trying to grow tomatoes and Olivia has this nice bed going by just planting them and ignoring them!

Olivias_sunflower She also must have spread some parrot food around as she is growing sunflowers too.

I have tried to grow sunflowers for two years now without success.

So, thanks Olivia!  Next year maybe some lettuce and cucumbers?

What a talented dog. Since she doesn't have thumbs does she have a "green paw"?

I can't seem to be sucessful at growing anything but weeds.

how great that olivia has been such a help! i was cracking up reading about all she planted for you =) who woulda thunk, a dog with a green thumb? all our dog ever did was pick our tomatoes and cucumbers the minute they ripened, then take two bites out of them and leave them strewn about the yard, like "what? i left you a few bites..."
