Are we there yet?

  • How about a little history.
I started this blog in 2003. It was to be all about our experience in house building. It's been an amazing journey. Sometimes I look around and I can't believe we acutally built this house and when I say we I mean we. Myself, my husband, his cousin Russ, our Dads and assorted friends and other relatives. We did hire a contractor to pour our foundation and we had a horrible experience with some drywallers but otherwise it was all us. We have been in the house now for one year. There are still a lot of details to finish up. I have some guilt about not posting house projects since I am a member of a house blog ring but there is a lot of valuable information on house building here so while my posts are more about living in our dream house you can still search my archives for posts on every aspect of house building. So? Are we there yet? Nearly. We still need doors and trim inside.......some flooring and tiling needs to be done so stay tuned-we'll get there.

Deck Building Party

OK, I have been busy

It's been a good kind of busy.  So nice to be making some money for a change.  I just wrapped up a big project and treated myself to a new computer.  I cannot wait for it to get here.  Meanwhile, I took the day off and did some hiking on the property.

Spring is definitely here.

Bald_eagle We have seen a ton of eagles this year already.  This one looks to be about 3 and is taking a bath.

New_log We have had a lot of flooding this year and this huge 50' tree was deposited last week.  It will be a great place for us to observe wildlife.

Wood_duck_henThe wood duck pair has been hanging out here for the last few days.

They are so secretive.

Back on the property there are lots of new waterways cut.  Here is some new beaver action.

New_beaver_action We saw the tracks of deer, Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Wood ducks, Common Merganser, Coyote, possible bear and beaver.

We actually saw the Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher, Common Mergansers, Wood ducks and Hooded Mergansers.

Lots of frogs were hopping away as we got near, not too keen on having their picture taken.

Nothing has been happening on the house front.  We did refinance and have the money for the fence and gate so that should be happening soon.  I have several many projects in line waiting for me to get going on them but something always comes up.

I have to do a better job of managing my time at home now that I work at home.  I do have my office in a separate room now and that helps but it is hard to tear myself away sometimes.  What makes it even harder is that I love this job, a dream job writing about birds.  I couldn't have wished for a better job.  It will give me the needed cash to get on some of these house projects that need to be done.

It will be a big help now that the days are getting longer.

My husband has joined the land of blogging.  So now I can nag him when he hasn't gotten around to posting.

Glad your dream job has worked out so well for you. Hurrah! Your walk around your property is inspirational! I see lots of cool things here but nothing as cool as eagles and wood ducks! Wow!

Your pictures induce such relaxation! They're just beautiful. What a great place.

(So...did ya smack him?) :o)
