We Have Power!
It is so exciting when we pass each of these milestones. I remember how exciting it was when we got water in the house but this was even better.
Dave is about to flip the switch that will power up the house.
Such luxury! No more cords running from the temporary power poll to the house. No more blowing the breakers when I forget the compressor is on and start the coffee pot.
In all the excitement I forgot to mention that the ceiling is finished.
Dave and I put the last boards up Wednesday night. It looks great. Yesterday Dave and Stuart ripped some of the pine boards left to use at the trim.
The carpet started going in yesterday. It's taking a little longer since they didn't know that we had in floor radiant heat and that they had to glue down the tack strips. They will come Monday and finish it up as well as install the home theater carpet.
There are still a few lights to be installed.
Here is the light that I got for the rec room. We are planning to do a 50's diner theme in there so I thought this fit the style pretty well.
The girls are getting big. Today I moved them to a fresh patch of lawn. They love new lawn day. Lots of slugs and tasty fresh greens. Soon I will be able to move them in the the others.
The other four hens faithfully lay four eggs a day.
There is just nothing like fresh eggs. I also love taking a break and going in and sitting with them. It's very relaxing to watch them pecking and scratching around.
On a sad note, say good bye to these trees.
We had a purchase order on this five acres until January and the owner said he just couldn't wait anymore for us to finish the house so he put it on the market. It sold to a developer and he got permission to harvest the trees. He will take out all the marketable cedars and leave nothing but a bear spot for a house. He bought it for 130k. We asked him how much to buy it from him since we are close to closing on the house and he said 200k. Well, that's too much for us. It's sad though. I was hoping someone would buy it that was as in love with the property as we were.
I was thinking the other day how wonderful it is to turn into our drive.
Our driveway is about 750' long. It is lined with foxgloves and Daisy's that the birds planted as well as salmon berries, ferns and cedars.
Scott creek runs along it so you can hear the water as soon as you turn down the drive.
It's very peaceful and it's hard to carry any of the woes of work or the city home when you turn in.

Jane, I think those are the best pictures you have taken yet! It is really looking like a real house! How nice to flip a switch and you have light!! Oh my GOD! What a difference. Can't wait to have fresh eggs every morning. My favorite!!!

Looks great and I can't believe how much the chickens have grown. I love the color you selected for that one room too.
Congrats on the power thing too :)

Wow, what a great post! First off, congrats on the power! Wahoo...can't beat it. Next, the ceiling looks so much better than "great"...more like awsomely beautiful. The accoustics in that room must be marvelous. "Whohead" (our daughter) loved seeing that latest pictures of the chickens. They are sure pretty birds.
As far as developers cutting down those beautiful trees...I'm so sorry to hear that. :( It's a shame that they can't leave it for the world to appreciate the way it is. I'm so jealous of your beautiful drive home.
